The FOSTTA office-bearers have stated that the production of man-made fabric has decreased from four crore meters per day to less than two crore meters, the sale of polyester fabric including sarees and dress material has decreased by almost 40% and that the export of finished fabrics has reduced by almost 28% in the last 10 months post-GST implementation, in a letter to Modi.

Bangladesh set an aim to attain textile exports of $60 billion, India set its target to increase exports to $30 billion, while Pakistan’s total exports have decreased from $25 billion to $20 billion, in which the textile sector’s share is 61 per cent.

The report evaluated that the China’s export of textile products share is 36 per cent, Vietnam contributes 12.4 per cent, similarly Pakistan’s share is 7 per cent, therefore a trilateral products specific agreement between China, Pakistan and Vietnam will acquire 50 per cent share of the Global Textile market.

PSF prices stable-to-up in Asian markets

PTA prices trend up in Asia, Europe

Asian PTA prices, CFR China was up US$10 a ton in the third week of May 2018 while CFR Southeast Asia marker also rose US$10 a ton on the week. In China, offers for bonded goods inched up US$10 a ton and discussions for nearby month cargoes were heard US$5 less than the offer prices.

Purified terephthalic acid prices in Asia edged up that week despite slightly weak paraxylene cost. Since the processing margins have been recovered a bit and plants undertook maintenance, the upward trend of PTA market will now depend on the upstream energy market.

“For our belief in the online model in India, we are investing in a warehouse in Mumbai that should be ready by 2018 end and would help us get closer to our customers,” said Janne Einola. He also said India has been a strong supplier for home textiles, linen, lingerie, accessories and wovens. He added that, “We are assessing how we may source garments, of course, we need to look at the country’s knowledge (in that domain).” He said that H&M has committed an investment of Rs 720 crore in the Indian market.

Grasim to concentrate on its viscose staple fibre business to register growth and expand its market in India

Grasim’s managing director Dilip Gaur said that, “Viscose is eating out of other fiber markets. Our domestic fiber business has grown by 22% (annually) during the March 2018 quarter,” adding that the bulk of the growth in the textile business is expected to come from the company’s VSF business in the future.On a consolidated basis, Grasim Industries will invest more than Rs13, 327 crore in capex into its textile and cement businesses till financial year 2021.
