CPL offers in China were largely stable in the week ended 24 August 2018 as supply tightness was easing a bit due to increase in average run rates in the region during the week.

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end were stable during the week. In China, spot CPL liquid good offers were up US$7 a ton due to strong local currency while solid goods also rose US$7 on the week. Sinopec kept its August contract nomination price at 16,800 Yuan a ton while Fibrant nominated its August contract price at 16,900 Yuan a ton for liquid goods.

In China, offers for 1.4D direct-melt-spun PSF in Jiangsu and Zhejiang rose US cents 6 a kg in the week ended 24 August 2018. The same in Fujian and Shandong jumped US cents 8 a kg. PSF producers in China hiked offers in line with rising polyester chip values this week. Polyester chip prices in Asia were raised amid higher PTA and MEG cost in the week.

Major PSF producers limited their production resulting in to tight supply recently. In seasonal ebb, polyester market was supposed to be dull, but it moved differently at this time of the year.

P. Alli Rani, Chairman and Managing Director of CCI, told that the Cotton Corporation would need space in 500 to 600 warehouses. The Cotton Corporation purchased 3.6 lakh bales of cotton at MSP (minimum support price) during the current cotton season (October 2017 to September 2018). However, with the steep hike in MSP for cotton, the CCI might have to purchase huge quantities next season (October 2018 to November 2019).

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Patron-in-Chief Gohar Ejaz said the government had recently halved tax rebates that stood at 4-7% and thus things turned unfeasible for textile producers. Ejaz said Pakistan had only adjusted its exchange rate by letting the rupee weaken, but it won’t impact national exports. He said that the rupee had been artificially stabilised at Rs 105 per dollar for the past five years.
