Offers for medium-end VSF in China climbed US cents 8 a kg in the week ended 31 August 2018 while high-end were up US cents 9 a kg on the week. In spot, 1.5D VSF jumped US cents 2 a kg as compared to last week while 1.2D was also up US cents 3.

Viscose staple fibre prices in China moved up in the week despite weakening pulp prices. Some traders were clearing their inventories and thus attracted some buying. However, mills followed up with small-volume requirements during the week.

Due to the release of new capacities and cautious mood among buyers, actual transactions were moderate.

Asian acrylonitrile prices inched up US$10 ton CFR Far East Asia and CFR South East in the week ended 31 August 2018. Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose despite weak propylene cost, as supply was still tight amid turnaround season.

Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical shut its 70,000 tons per year ACN plant for maintenance on 1 September. Taiwan’s FPC shut one of its ACN line for maintenance on 4 September.

The Government’s Presidential Free Cotton Inputs Scheme has helped the vulnerable marginalised farmers who have been suffering from the high cost of inputs and low producer prices at the same time getting their yields affected by the negative effects of climate change. The farmers have responded positively by “going back to the fields” and are producing cotton whose volume has been constantly growing. Given that the output was on a free fall, the interventions by the Government came at the right.

Textile product innovations in the LEISUREE.FASHION sector have been extremely promising. At one of KARL MAYER’s 80th anniversary celebrations, an unusual, stretch fabric for shapewear brands was being produced on an MJ 52/1 S. This fabric is lighter and more feminine than normal fabrics, creates transparent and opaque effects and, with its relief-like, superimposed design, is reminiscent of lace. A dense fabric with a light, two-way-stretch ground produced by the jacquard bar and the stitch-forming ground bar at the rear was also being produced on the MJ 52/1 S.

Materials such as cottons, polyesters and polycottons do not require pre-and post-treatment with this ink, so the whole process is accelerated and simplified, and is nearly a "dry" process. Strong influence of textile substrates - The washing resistance of different graphite–polyurethane coatings with graphite contents between 25% and 33% on cotton, linen, viscose, and polyester woven fabrics was compared, using two different graphite particle sizes on diverse textile substrates, in a recent study. It was found that not only the graphite particle dimensions and graphite concentration strongly influence the longevity of the coatings, but also the textile substrates which were coated with the conductive mass.
