Businesses close to home and individual textile exporters in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, who have sizeable exposure to the currency, have been hit hard after the recent drop in the currency’s exchange rates.

The euro tumbled against the dollar — falling 3.6 cents — after the strong US jobs data released last week. With the euro at 1.06 to the dollar, the market is bracing for the currency reaching parity with the dollar — that would mean a further fall.

The Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing (AMITH) is an important player in the Moroccan economy with more than 850 members has entered into a performance agreement as per the terms the textile industry to increase exports to 464 million and is also committed to create 90,000 jobs by 2020. The agreement was signed at the end of February.

The agreement was signed in the framework of the 2014 -2020 industrial Acceleration Plan, launched in April 2014. A total of 57 projects led by industry-leading companies were identified and the sector has also pledged to increase exports.

A new textiles trade fair, Home Textiles Premium, will debut in Madrid, Spain which will be organized by Feria Valencia in conjunction with Ateval-Home Textile from Spain, a textile employers association and ATP Home from Portugal.

Home Textiles Premium has been created to be an exclusive trade fair for top brands. Fifty exhibitors will show furnishing and interior décor fabrics, curtains and ornamental trimmings, carpets and rugs, and home textiles and decorative accessories.

An exhibition of Lithuanian textile art was opened up on 10 March with the participation of the artists and representatives of the Lithuanian Consulate General in Grodno.
