Paraxylene price gains across regions

Asian paraxylene prices gained US$30.33 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the last week of January. The FOB Korea mixed xylenes marker rose US$32 a ton.

Paraxylene prices rebounded further in Asian markets on the week as February contract prices were settled by major producers. Meanwhile, Isomer-mixed xylene prices also jumped weekend on firm buying while forward curve flipped to contango.

In US, paraxylene spot tracked rising Asian values while decline in feedstock mixed xylene softened amid improved production economics. Arbitrage to Asia was open on paper.

US Apparel brand Urban Factory sets foot in Indian market

Urban Factory, a United States-based apparel brand, has entered India independently and aims to open stores in Bengaluru and Hyderabad by the mid of this year.

Madhuri Lakkapragada, founder of Urban Factory, said that all styles that come in India are delayed by a season and unfortunately, fashion comes to India in the end.

She added that they want to address this gap by bringing current customised styles in India.

Last year, India had liberalised norms for foreign direct investment in single-brand retail, allowing brands such as Urban Factory to set up stores in the country.

Pakistan’s cotton yarn import from India up by 94% YoY

In December 2015, cotton yarn export was at 98.8 million kgs with 76 countries importing yarn worth US$266 million (INR1,760 crore) during the month. The average unit price realization was unchanged from November 2015, however, it was down US cents 26 as compared to December 2014.

China was the largest importer of cotton yarn from India in December, followed by Bangladesh and Pakistan. The top three together accounted for more than 57 per cent of cotton yarn exported from India during the month.

Nylon yarn price declines in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices fell US cents 4 a kg on the upper end while FDY40D were down US cents 7 a kg in the last week of January.

Nylon DTY 70D/24F price rolled over while 30D/10F prices remained unchanged during the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were stable while 1.5D staple fiber was at US$2.11-2.17 a kg.

Nylon filament yarn prices were range bound in weakness and declines were seen in few specs as operating pressure eased with softening of caprolactum and nylon chip prices.

Caprolactum price sinks on insipid demand

Asian markers, the SE and FE markers declined US$50 a ton in the last week of January.

In China, liquid good offers were down US$15 a ton with selling indications also down US$15 a ton.

Solid goods offer fell to US$1,480-1,495 a ton.

Sinopec cut its January contract settlement at US$1,450 a ton for liquid goods while DSM Nanjing announced settlement at US$1,460 a ton for liquid goods.

Caprolactum prices eased on insipid demand and range-bound raw materials and market participants operated on hand-to-mouth volumes.

Muslin, Bangladesh’s legendary fabric need government support as well as private initiative for revival of the marvellous material and to promote the legendary textile and protect the artisans who weave it, speakers at the “Revival of Muslin: Policies and Institutions” workshop said.

The discussion was chaired by Mustafizur Rahman, executive director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue. Speakers included Industries Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Additional Secretary Jamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has sanctioned three handloom clusters costing Rs.2.19 crore in Anantapur district, this was unveiled by Collector Kona Sasidhar, while addressing the district level Handloom and Jute Committee meeting here on Saturday.

An exhibition organized by the regional office of the textile commissioner (ROC), Amritsar, began in the city on Friday at an exhibition hall on Malhar Road where around 40 participants are displayed products like blankets, carpets, suits, etc.

Ethiopia achieves 70pc of the textile export target

The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute (EDITI) stated that the country’s textile exports for the first half of Ethiopian fiscal year 2015-16 are lagging behind the plan target.

The target was to achieve $60.07 million from textile exports, while only $41.1 million was attained, which is only 70% of the plan, said EDITI.

During the mid of last year, the government revealed ambitious plans to stimulate the sector by offering attractive incentives to investors.

Downward trend continues in Pakistan textile exports

The Pakistani textile exports showed around 9 percent decline during July-December 2015 as compared to same period of previous year. Textile exports continue to decline except a minor improvement in some of the small segments, sources revealed.

Raw cotton exports were 72 million during July December 2015, as compared to 114 million in previous year, a decline of 37 percent and cotton yarn declined 30 percent as its exports in second half of 2015 dropped to 698 million from 992 million in 2014.
