Turkey may resort to anti dumping duties on US cotton imports

Turkey after a more than year-long review, dealing a potential blow to the world's No 3 grower of natural fibre amid concerns Ankara could resort to anti-dumping duties as US cotton imports are damaging their domestic output.

The Economy Ministry in an interim investigative report stated that cotton imports originating from the United States have caused material damage to their local production.

Pakistan and South Korea to hold rounds of negotiations to launch a free trade agreement (FTA) to capitalize on each other's geo-strategic leverage, following an ongoing feasibility study conducted jointly by Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy since July 2015, is expected to be completed by June.

The largest producer of cotton in the world finds that its exportable goods are becoming uncompetitive in the face of the raw materials in India available for the manufacturing of these goods turning out to be costly.

Currently, the raw materials are available at marginally higher prices in local markets than the prevailing prices in the international markets.

Hence, the textile industry has urged the government to make cotton available for textile mills at prices cheaper than the prevailing prices in the international markets.

Japanese investment fund Integral will acquire apparel company Itokin for an estimated 16.5 billion yen ($144 million) to lead its turnaround efforts. Itokin, the struggling Japanese apparel giant's decision to get help from investment fund Integral in its rehabilitation efforts came as the company faced the prospect of imminent insolvency.

The company said that Integral will obtain new shares in Itokin via a private placement for 4.5 billion yen ($39.5 million) on Feb. 26 and gain 98% in voting rights. The fund will appoint three directors to Itokin's board to oversee the operations.

ITF appeals to give top priority to Indian textile sector in India EAEU FTA

The Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) has appealed to Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman to give top priority to textile sector in the on-going study of India-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and also thanks her for swift finalization of first draft of the Joint Study Group (JSG) report on the feasibility of FTA.

In a letter to the Minister, ITF Secretary, Prabhu Dhamodaran said that there were tremendous opportunities awaiting the Indian textile products in this region.

Prabhu said that ITF was willing to submit data and also take active part in this JSG process.

Wool prices held firm at New Zealand wool auction even though Chinese buyers were not present due to the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday this week. China is the largest export market of New Zealand. At the auction, some 83 percent of the 12,024 bales of wool offered were sold.
