Taiwanese textiles giant Far Eastern New Century Corp (FENC) to open a new plant for the production of knitted fabrics in Vietnam. The company with the US$ 760 million investment aims to improve the fabric and garment supply chain.

The capacity expansion plans are part of the company’s investment project in the country over the next three years. The new plant is expected to manufacture 6,000 tonnes of knitted fabrics this year.

In China, medium-length fiber and cotton-type staple ASF prices were flat in the third week of March. Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers were stable during the week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were range bound that week despite heavy cost pressure asserted by rising acrylonitrile cost. ASF producers have continuously raised their indications to improve margins. On the other hand, the upcoming off season resulted in thin demand. Downstream mills purchased from hand to mouth amid low buying interest.

Asian acrylonitrile prices again gained US$20 a ton CFR Far East Asia in the third week of March while Southeast Asia was up US$70 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were steady while Indian ACN prices gained US$30 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices continued to rise for the seventh week in succession in Asian markets due to tightness in supply on turnarounds and lack of feedstock. In China, spot prices held stable while discussions lifted despite sellers offering flat on insipid trades.

The development of cotton-growing will make an outstanding contribution to boosting light industry, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Last year they laid the foundation of a light industry park in Mingachevir. A total of nine plants, including a yarn plant, will be built there.

The first plants is ready to open there this year. And this is a great economic initiative, said the President addressing the development of the cotton-growing industry. The technological park will generate at least 5,000 new jobs.

Asian MEG prices declined US$23 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the second week of March. In China, prices went down from US$45 a ton during the week.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined on the week on weak downstream demand as polyester producers skipped buying on ample supply. Meanwhile, traders were heard halting short-selling. Iran's Farsa Chimie plans to restart its 450,000 ton a year MEG plant in Assaluyeh by end March, after it remained shut since mid-February.

Asian paraxylene prices dived US$50 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the second week of March. Isomer-grade mixed xylene declined US$43 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices were driven down in Asian markets amid continuing free-fall in sentiment affected by heavy pressure from bearish futures markets. Upstream isomer-grade mixed xylene also fell week on week in line with lower upstream and downstream markets. Falling crude oil prices further added to the pessimistic market sentiment.
