The non-profit H&M Foundation and The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) have developed a new technology, a hydrotherm (Chemical) process through which recycle blend textiles can to converted into new fabrics and yarns without losing its quality.

Erik Bang, Innovation Lead at H&M Foundation said that they are very excited to develop this technology and scale it beyond the laboratory, which will benefit the global environment, people and communities.

ASF prices climb in China amid increasing demand

In China, ASF prices for medium-length fibre and cotton-type staple were up US cents 4 a kg in the last week of August. ASF prices increased as demand picked up slowly during the week. Prices may go up further later, as products from ASF producers became popular, along with continuous price hikes in upstream ACN market. Producers were released from inventory pressure, with even some products being run out.

In India, acrylic staple fibre prices were unchanged after the revision was made in mid-August amid stable ACN cost and decent demand.

Acrylonitrile prices rise across all regions

Asian acrylonitrile prices were up US$75 a ton CFR Far East Asia in the last week of August while CFR South East rose US$45 a ton. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were flat on the week at US$1,500-1,550 a ton while prices in India were at US$1,400-1,450 a ton.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose on high propylene cost and limited product availability in the region. ACN prices surged overwhelmingly with little resistance, which makes it hard to predetermine the peak.

The smuggling of foreign textiles into the Ghanaian market without payment of any tax has made their prices cheaper than the locally-manufactured ones. Mr Justice Asiedu Boateng, Finance and Administration Manager of Akosombo Textiles Limited said that the influx of counterfeit textiles and the incessant smuggling of pirated textile products into the country had taken over the Ghanaian market, which has affected production of the textile industry.

The head of political and economic affairs of the US consulate, John Robinson, in a meeting with members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Wednesday stated that the two countries need to focus on improving bilateral relation particularly in areas of economy and trade as there exists a lot of scope and opportunities.

He was emphatic that both the countries needed to ‘significantly’ improve bilateral relations in certain areas.
