Polyester prices inch up in China, down in India

In China, offers for 32s polyester yarn in Shengze rose US cents 3 a kg in the first week of January. Spun polyester yarn offers reacted to the surging polyester staple fibre prices during the week. Market saw moderate demand as sales were modest.

In India, polyester yarn 30 knit yarn prices were down INR1 a kg (down US cent 1 a kg on the week) in Ludhiana market.

In Pakistan, polyester yarn prices were unchanged during the week supported by stable polyester staple fibre cost and increasing demand.

PTA prices rise on increasing demand in Asia

Asian PTA prices were up US$15 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the first week of January. In China, offers for bonded goods were up US$10 a ton and discussions for nearby month cargoes were talked up on the week. Yisheng Petrochemical hiked its self-lifting price by US$10 from previous week while Hengli Petrochemical kept stable.

Purified terephthalic acid prices in Asia jumped this week on higher upstream values and growing demand.

ASF price declines in China, firm in India

In China, ASF prices fell with medium-length fibre and cotton-type down US cents 2 a kg in the first week of January.

Acrylic staple fibre prices declined in China while they were unchanged in India and Pakistan during the week. In China, ASF producers lowered their offers again that week to get rid of the inventory pressure, however they faced cost pressure from the rebounding feedstock market and as a result there are chances that they might raise offers in coming weeks.

Acrylonitrile prices stable across all regions

Asian acrylonitrile prices were stable in the first week of January. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were flat on the week while prices in India were firm during the week. Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were stable that week despite surging feedstock prices.

China’s acrylonitrile imports in November 2017 grew 19% to 21,967 tons as compared to October 2017.

Shanghai SECCO is planning to shut its 520,000 tons per year ACN unit in September 2018 for maintenance.

Falling world cotton prices kept trading activity slow moving

Slow moving trading activity was seen at cotton market on Wednesday as leading buyers withdrew to the sidelines in the backdrop of falling world cotton prices. The lack of buying interest from leading spinners further pushed cotton prices lower. However, ginners on their part remained steadfast and were not deterred with falling prices.

At the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rates were adjusted downward to Rs7,500 per maund.

Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) had a meeting on Wednesday with Bangladesh deputy high commissioner, Mohammad Lutfor Rahmam at the GCCI premises to discuss the possibilities of exploring a business collaboration in the textile sector of Bangladesh.

Shailesh Patwari, president of GCCI said that they are organizing a global textile summit in Ahmedabad this March and has invited Bangladesh to become a partner country for the same.

The textile traders' community in the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub has been facing lot of difficulties on the GST portal due to technical glitches and sought extension of deadline in the online e-way bill generation. An e-way bill is required for movement of goods worth more than Rs 50,000.

Though the central government has launched the e-way bill generation on trial basis for the inter-state movement of goods above Rs 50,000 starting from January 16, the traders have demanded that implementation of e-way bill must be done only after ensuring the system works properly.
