Asian fibre and yarn prices decline in December 2017

Polyester staple fibre prices in December 2017 slipped in China amid cautious buying sentiment during the month. PSF manufacturers also reduced the operating rate due to insipid trading sentiment. In Pakistan, PSF prices inched up this month as demand was strong in polyester market. In India, PSF offers were steady during the month. In China, 1.4D PSF was down US cents 3 a kg as compared to November. In India, 1.2D PSF prices were up US cents 2 a kg from last month.

Nylon yarn prices firm on steady demand

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F and FDY40D SD prices were stable in the second week of January. Nylon DTY 70D/24F and 30D/10F prices also were firm during the week. Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over on the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices were range-bound this week on the back of steady demand and firm chip prices. Inventory did not increase much during the week. Since Chinese year-end is approaching, yarn plant rates will remain low for some time.

Overall, nylon yarn prices are likely to range bound in coming weeks.

Caprolactum price declines in Asia

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end declined US$10 a ton in the second week of January. In China, spot liquid good offers were down US$107 a ton as compared to last week while solid goods fell US$32 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia weakened that week despite strong benzene market. In China, CPL offers were assessed down on ample supply during the week. Domestic run rates dropped to 80.8% in the week.
