Bangladesh government to boost its apparel exports in the years to come has decided to provide 500 acres of land inside a special economic zone located in Mirersharai of Chittagong to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (Beza), which deals with these zones will sign a memorandum of understanding in this regard with BGMEA. Beza believes that the move would help garment makers earn $50 billion from exports by 2021.

The cotton market will continue mix trend in the coming days, as ginners are left with smaller quantities, while big mills are relying on imports, according to analyst. Karachi cotton market recorded four transactions of around 2,500 bales at a price of Rs5,800 to Rs7,400/maund.

Deals included 1,000 bales of Sanghar at Rs5,800 to Rs6,000/maund, 708 bales of Vehari at Rs6,400, 400 bales of Burewala at Rs6,300 and 200 bales of Shahar Sultan exchanged hands at Rs7,400/maund.

With the growing popularity of the Improved Cultivation and Advanced Retting Exercise for Jute (Jute-ICARE) project and initial indications of success, the Centre to evaluate the project is likely to appoint a third party government agency, an official said here on Tuesday.

Under the project, the area coverage has been increased from around 12,000 hectares covering four blocks in West Bengal and Assam in 2015 to one lakh hectares covering 90 blocks in jute producing states in 2018.

Pakistan exported textile and clothing products worth $8.8 billion during July-February period of the year 2017-18 as against $8.2 billion of the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Recording textile exports growth of 7.17 percent during eight months (July to February) of the ongoing financial year (2017-18).

The growth in textile and clothing products exports enhanced the country’s overall exports to $14.8 billion during July-February of 2017-18 as compared to $13.3 billion of the corresponding period of the last year.

The Algerian’s largest textile factory in a joint venture with Turkey begins its one month pilot production on Thursday at a production rate of 20 tonnes per day and will produce textile yarn during this period, the Algerian Ministry of Industry and Mines announced yesterday.

The factory’s working system will gradually move to three teams per day (8 hours per team) with a production capacity of 20 tonnes per team or 60 tonnes per day.

Prices up over sustained demand for quality lint from needy spinners to meet their seasonal requirements at cotton market on Monday. Most of the deals were finalised at higher rates. Spinners striving to cover up their positions also booked some lower grade cotton at higher price. The ginners are holding less than 0.6 million bales, brokers said.

Fast depleting stocks held by ginners and shortage of quality lots continue to panic small spinners. Fear of delay in arrival of next crop due to water shortage in lower Sindh was also a matter of great concern for the textile industry.
