Air Emissions
The ZDHC Foundation, a sustainable chemical management organization, has introduced the Air Emissions Module, a new tool created to help fashion brands and suppliers monitor and reduce harmful air emissions.
The module is designed to track and lower volatile organic compounds (VOC) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Built around ZDHC’s Air Emissions Guidelines, it applies the Potential to Emit (PTE) methodology for VOCs and includes reporting for Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions.
By converting chemical inventory and operational data into actionable insights, the tool enables performance benchmarking, targeted improvement strategies, and alignment with sustainable chemical management practices.
According to ZDHC, the Air Emissions Module allows brands to sort and evaluate suppliers based on their emission performance through PTE-VOC data analysis. It also highlights chemicals responsible for the highest VOC emissions, helping brands phase them out. In addition, the tool provides access to comparable Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG data, supporting brands in shaping engagement strategies and tracking progress toward sustainability commitments, including alignment with the UN Fashion Charter for Climate Action.
For suppliers, the tool offers a cost-effective way to calculate PTE VOC and GHG emissions using existing data, eliminating the need for expensive testing. It helps them focus on corrective actions such as replacing high-VOC chemicals, setting benchmarks, and monitoring progress toward sustainability goals.
