Zalando pre-owned fashion platform expands to Sweden & Denmark

As the demand for second-hand fashion continues to grow, the European e-commerce company, Zalando has also expanded its pre-owned fashion platform Zircle to Sweden and Denmark. Zircle sells a huge range of second-hand, lightly used items that are collected directly from their customer base.

According to a survey by the German e-tail giant, around half of Zalando’s customers located in those markets said within the next 6 months, they would consider buying pre-owned fashion.

Director of UX re-commerce at Zalando, Mareike Hummel said that they felt excited about expanding Zircle to Sweden and Denmark and would offer the pre-owned experience to Nordic consumers with the highest level of convenience. He also said that after the launch of Zircle in Germany and its expansion in Europe over the past 2 years, they have gathered many learnings that have helped improve the customer experience when shopping on Zircle.

Previously, Zalando has also announced the extension of the life of 50 million fashion items through circular initiatives by 2023.

In 2019, Zalando launched their first piloted Zircle with a pop-up store in Berlin. The name Zircle is a combination of words Zalando and circular. Since its first launch, the resale platform has expanded to the Netherlands, France, Spain, Belgium, and Poland.

This expansion is in line with Zalando’s other targets which states the elimination of single-use plastics by 2023. Working on this, for all orders from Zircle, plastic has been scrapped and recycled paper is being piloted instead.
