Zalando
Zalando’s private label, ZIGN, has introduced the ZIGN Studio Collection, highlighting the latest advancements in material innovation and sustainability. This collection features 41 women’s wear and 39 men’s wear pieces, encompassing various items like textiles, footwear, and accessories.
The fabrics used are derived from renewable sources such as wood pulp (Naia Renew), biobased faux leather made from coffee grounds, recycled fishnet nylon, mushroom leather, and other renewable and recyclable materials. Additionally, recycled dyes and pigments are utilized in the collection.
A notable aspect of this collection is the integration of modular design elements, enhancing garment versatility and allowing for multiple ways of wearing. For instance, detachable sleeves on a down-jacket enable the piece to be worn both as a jacket and a vest, showcasing adaptability and expanding usage possibilities.
Zalando has designed a substantial part of this collection in alignment with its Circular Design Criteria, employing a mono-material approach. This approach ensures that garments are made with a minimum of 95% single material, contributing to easy biodegradability or recycling. The aim is for these fashion items to fit into either the biological or technical cycle, facilitating regeneration into new resources.
Sara Diez, Zalando’s VP of private label, sustainability and D&I product, expressed excitement about the ZIGN Studio collection and emphasized the brand’s dedication to sustainability, circularity, diversity, and inclusion. ZIGN, as a private label, stands as a hub for testing innovative solutions in the fashion industry.
The Zalando team designing the private label used this collection as an opportunity to rethink their design process, covering everything from sourcing materials to manufacturing processes. Each style is carefully crafted, emphasizing innovative materials, design details, contemporary fit, and modular design elements to increase the versatility of garments.
This collection is now available to customers in all Zalando markets, promoting sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry.
