Unifi partners with Hologenix on performance fiber for wellness

Global textile solutions provider, Unifi, has partnered with materials science firm Hologenix, in order to introduce a performance fiber made from recycled materials with infrared wellness benefits.

The Celliant with Repreve fiber from Unifi and Hologenix combines the infrared capabilities of the technologically advanced Celliant infrared system with the environmentally responsible Repreve recycled fiber.

Body heat can be converted into infrared energy and returned to the body through Celliant, a mixture of IR-generating bioceramic minerals. This temporarily boosts local circulation and cellular oxygenation. The firms claim that this has a number of advantages, including improving overall performance in healthy people and assisting with muscle recuperation.

Repreve recycled performance fiber is created from 100% recycled materials, such as pre- and post-consumer garbage and post-consumer plastic bottles. To support the claims of recycled content made by clients, it is also validated and traceable using UTrust verification and FiberPrint technology.

Repreve reduces greenhouse gas emissions, uses less energy and water, and emits fewer greenhouse gases than virgin fiber when compared to it.

Beverly Knits, one of the biggest circular knitters in the US, is Celliant with Repreve’s official preferred North American knitting partner. Beverly Knits creates fabric for all markets, including intimate apparel, activewear, outdoor products, mattress and bedding, automotive, industrial, and medical. Through the three-way relationship, the entire manufacturing process—from Celliant mineral processing to final product—can be completed within a 300-mile radius.

Eddie Ingle, CEO of Unifi, said that they’re delighted that the infrared component of Celliant with Repreve delivers additional health and wellness advantages and that they are expanding the usage of sustainable fiber solutions that positively impact their world, both now and in the future.
