Under Armor partners with NC State team to explore advanced materials

Under Armour and NC State, have launched a new partnership that will support student growth, commercialize research, and enhance textile and material innovation in the apparel, footwear, and accessories sector.

On NC State’s Centennial Campus, Under Armour has established an innovation center where company personnel can collaborate with academics. In order to hasten the commercialization of new discoveries, the partners have inked a master research agreement. Innovative approaches to assisting athletes on their road to the competition will be discovered through collaborative projects, which will also lessen the environmental impact of the sector.

They anticipate enhancing textiles innovation, enhancing sustainability, and creating future industry leaders through shared experience.

NC State is home to the top nonwovens and textiles institutions in the country, and North Carolina is the core of American textile manufacturing.

NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson, said that the presence of Under Armour on campus will result in significant experiences for their faculty and students. They look forward to enhancing textile innovation, enhancing sustainability, and creating future industry leaders through shared experience.

Over the coming year, Under Armour anticipates spending more than $1 million on research with NC State. Research and development partnerships with the Nonwovens Institute (NWI), the first university program in the world to study engineered fabrics, are intended to commercialize innovations.

Behnam Pourdeyhimi, executive director of NWI, associate dean, and William A. Klopman Distinguished Professor, stated that collaborations between business and academics are what spur transformative innovation. In order to create innovative solutions, their cooperation with Under Armour will rethink the future of fiber and materials.
