Ugg debuts collection made from recycled plastic and reclaimed wool waste

Southern California-based global lifestyle brand UGG® has launched its new Icon-Impact line, which includes a range of footwear made from sustainably sourced materials, including a reclaimed wool innovation.

The collection was released as part of the footwear brand’s ongoing efforts to REDUCE its environmental effect, with the goal of reducing waste generation throughout its supply chain. Its new autumn/winter 2021 collection aligns with this goal, with the brand creating two technologies related to turning waste wool into new materials.

The three styles featured in the collection are Fluff Sugar Cross Slide, Fuzz Sugar Slide, and Classic Sugar Ultra Mini. Each one strives to keep Ugg’s signature design and appeal while also implementing its innovations.

UGGplush™ and UGGcycle™ are its new materials, which are manufactured from reclaimed wool, which uses less water, energy, and emits fewer carbon emissions than virgin wool. According to, company’s press release, the repurposed wool has saved the company 134 million megajoules of energy, 11.9 billion gallons of water, and 134 million pounds of CO2.

The collection also features Ugg’s iconic SugarSole™ foam sole, which is made from sugarcane, repurposed plastic, and carbon-neutral materials, in addition to the wool innovations.

Every piece in the collection is inspired by Ugg’s Feel Good initiative, a sustainable commitment platform that debuted in 2020 and details the company’s environmental commitments.

Ugg has also stated that with every purchase of their Icon-Impact line, it will plant one tree in conjunction with the One Tree Planted organization, as part of its eco-friendly ambitions. For the United States, Canada, Denmark, and Vietnam, the project will be available in select retail outlets and on Ugg’s official website.
