US-based Ugg launched new environmental measures to help conserve grasslands and forests, as well as eliminate waste in its supply chain, in order to help protect valuable ecosystems.
The Decker Brands-owned company announced that it plans to regenerate 200,000 acres of land in 2021 and 1,000,000 acres by 2025. The brand’s grant, in collaboration with Savory Institute, will support soil health and biodiversity in grasslands, with a focus on the Australian sheepskin industry.
The chief commercial officer at Savory Institute, Chris Kerston, said that the brand’s commendable work on traceability, as well as their current leadership in assisting producers on their individual paths to achieving regenerative environmental results, is truly remarkable. Farmers, customers, and nature all benefit from this degree of dedication.
Ugg has also worked with Canopy, a reforestation pioneer, to conserve forests and other vital lands. For any of its wood-based products, Ugg announced that it will now use 100% recycled fiber, FSC-certified forests, or fully forest-free alternatives.
The executive director at Canopy, Nicole Rycroft said that forest preservation is important for a healthier world, so what better way to commemorate Earth Day than with the UGG brand’s CanopyStyle and Pack4Good commitments. He adds that this is fantastic news for our planet, the world’s oldest and most fragile forest habitats, and the creatures that live in them.
Ugg also launched a renovation campaign to reduce waste and extend the life of its products, which will begin later this year. Customers would be able to bring off their ugg boots to be repaired.
UGG has signed the Apparel Transparency Pledge to be transparent on where the goods are manufactured, from what resources, and by whom in order to encourage transparency in the fashion industry.
