The Lycra Company showcases advanced bio-derived elastane

The Lycra Company has announced its participation in Milano Unica, taking place from 8 to 10 July 2025, reaffirming its role as a leader in sustainable textile innovation. The Lycra Brand Lounge will unveil the world’s first commercially available elastane fibre made from renewable resources, the bio-derived Lycra EcoMade.

Made with 70% renewable content, including field corn, Lycra EcoMade provides an eco-friendly alternative to traditional elastane. It maintains the same level of performance and does not require any changes in existing design or manufacturing processes, making it easy for brands to adopt.

A special display section in the Lounge will spotlight these collaborations, showcasing the fibre’s flexibility across multiple categories, such as swimwear, underwear, athleisure, and denim.

Beyond physical product showcases, the Lycra Brand Lounge will offer an immersive multimedia experience. One of the highlights is a virtual reality tour that takes visitors through Iowa’s cornfields, showing the fibre’s journey from plant to finished textile.

“Our partners are successfully turning the bio-derived Lycra EcoMade fibre into high-quality fabrics and clothing, which proves we are on the right track,” said Alistair Williamson, Vice President for EMEA and South Asia at The Lycra Company. “True innovation must support sustainability. Our goal is to offer large-scale solutions that deliver both comfort and environmental care.”
