The Hut Group commits to achieve ethical supply chain and circularity targets

The British e-commerce company, The Hut Group (THG), has pledged to achieve its ethical supply chain and circularity targets, with a new initiative to offset all of its historical emissions by 2025.

The THG x Planet Earth approach will be built around three pillars, all of which are anchored by the UN Sustainable Development Goals: protecting climate and nature; strengthening its supply chain and circularity, and empowering people and communities.

By 2025, the online cosmetics shop also plans to move to 100% renewable electricity for its operations, as well as 100% recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging.

In line with the UK Government’s goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and the Paris Climate Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the company has pledged to use 100% sourced agricultural materials for its own brands, which will be deforestation-free.

THG has committed to bringing about change among its partners, with 50% of its suppliers and THG Ingenuity partners setting carbon-reduction goals by 2025.

By 2023, the strategy will outline its goal of protecting human rights and eradicating modern slavery through the implementation of a dedicated policy. By 2025, all suppliers will commit to the group’s ethical sourcing guidelines. THG also plans to offer a livable wage to all direct employees, agency workers, and contractors by 2025.

By 2030, it aspires to achieve 50% gender equity, at least 15% ethnic minority representation on the board of directors and within the senior leadership team, and to close wage discrepancies between men and women in all THG divisions.

From 2022, THG founder and CEO Matt Moulding, members of the executive board, and the company’s senior leadership team will be assigned specific sustainability objectives, the accomplishment of which will affect their remuneration.

Molding said that publishing their goals is the first stage. Next year, they’ll publish their roadmaps for meeting each milestone target by 2030. They’ve always been fast-paced, agile, and responsive to market changes, and their sustainability strategy is no different – while they’ve set their sights on 2030, they’ll do everything they can to achieve more and collaborate with others to accelerate the pace of positive change. Their vision is to leave the world a better place than we found it. Every one of its employees, suppliers, and supporters will have to take personal responsibility and make a personal commitment to assist them to reach their common goals.
