WeDesign launches design competition with the UN

Future Fashion Now, A global sustainable design competition has been launched by the WeDesign agency in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) and Ellen MacArthur Foundation, to rethink how the fashion industry works.

This competition has been inspired by the foundation’s Make Fashion Circular Programme and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It invites participants to design a sustainable outfit or accessory to inspire the future of fashion.

The competition is focused on students and industrial professionals who are ambitious to embrace the principles of circularity and abide by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The participants are expected to be creative in designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use and regenerating natural systems, while being cool, desirable and attractive for customers.

WeDesign stated that the entries are required to reflect a systematic approach to the challenge. They further added that the challenge is focused on going further than simply introducing recycled material in the garment composition or making garments more durable.

They believe that it is about building a system that doesn’t use resources up. They aspire to see a system that is regenerative and restorative by design and reflects the times we live in, the fashion industry we need and the future we wish to see.

These participants are required to submit applications before the 30th of September. The 20 shortlisted finalists will be selected by 2nd October. Virtual interviews will then be held with each finalist before the winners are selected by a panel of fashion and sustainable experts.

There will also be scope for the public to vote through partner sites and media promotion which will be taken into consideration criteria to select the winners and becomes the basis for a public award.
