The Children’s Place releases its 2020 ESG report

Children’s US apparel retailer, The Children’s Place, has released its ‘2020 Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report,’ which includes a target to be 100% responsibly sourced by 2025.

The Children’s Place 2020 Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report details the organization’s accomplishments so far as well as its objectives for 2025, which include 100% responsible cotton procurement and set the timing for zero hazardous chemical discharge in the supply chain.

In addition, the company wants to meet its 2023 goal of cutting water consumption by a fourth (25% ). In 2020, the business achieved a 17% reduction in water use at its top denim and woven bottom plants, indicating that it is on course to meet this goal.

The retailer’s dedication to the environment, workforce diversity, pay fairness, giving back to children and families in need, and worker well-being in its worldwide supply chain are all highlighted in the ESG report.

Adrian Sherman, vice president, environment and social responsibility at The Children’s Place, said that children are at the center of everything they do. They believe they have a special responsibility to today’s children and future generations to contribute to a healthier planet and to foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Their annual ESG report shows their strategies and goals, as well as the company’s progress toward achieving these objectives.

Sherman added that through Better Cotton, they have considerably raised their ratio of responsibly sourced cotton in a short period of time. By setting goals in other sectors like polyester, consumer-facing packaging, labels and trim, zippers, and other hardware, they’re actively growing their usage of more sustainable raw materials.

In 2020, the company sourced almost half (46%) of the cotton fiber used for its products through Better Cotton, and is on track to meet its objective of 100% responsible cotton sourcing by 2025

By 2025, the company plans to switch to 100% responsibly sourced cotton for the cotton fibers for its garments.
