Supima partners with TextileGenesis on cotton traceability

Supima, the brand for American-grown Pima cotton, has announced a strategic relationship with TextileGenesis™ to create the next industry benchmark platform for authenticating cotton.

The Supima blockchain network, driven by TextileGenesis™, will digitally link Supima’s entire supply chain, from producers to brands and retailers. Supima’s technology partner Oritain™ will enable forensic origin identification for Supima cotton across the platform, which will be integrated with this digital platform. Through the combination of forensic physical and digital verification, the ability to independently authenticate the Supima content of products at every point of the supply chain provides unrivaled authenticity and responsibility.

SUPIMA® has been referred to as the “world’s best cottons” since its inception in 1954. Today marks the latest chapter in Supima’s continuous leading position in providing the global fashion industry with the most trusted and comprehensive verification solution for authentic premium fiber sourcing. SUPIMA® has the good fortune to work with brands and retailers who are pioneers in transparency and ethical sourcing. This ground-breaking supply chain traceability technology will provide an underlying framework for transparent and verifiable collaboration with partners.

Fibercoin™ technology from TextileGenesis will be integrated into Supima’s licensing program and applied to all SUPIMA® branded fiber throughout the supply chain, resulting in a non-fungible digital token for every kilogram of Supima cotton that can be physically and forensically verified and authenticated by Supima from the farm to the retail shelf. This trailblazing cotton sourcing initiative establishes a new benchmark for accountability in the global textile industry and consumer marketplace. Supima is striving to bring deeper levels of authenticity and responsibility to cotton sourcing, as well as increased support for equity and ubiquity for all supply chain stakeholders.

Marc Lewkowitz, President and CEO of Supima, said that the Supima relationship with TextileGenesis delivers undeniable evidence of origin for consumer items all the way back to the fiber’s origin for the first time. This enables Supima’s partner companies to make credible claims about product quality and sustainability that can be independently verified through digital and forensic testing. There is no such mechanism for any other fiber. SUPIMA® partners will have the most authentic and trustworthy premium cotton supply for all current and future demands of luxury clothing and home textile items.

Amit Gautam, Founder and CEO of TextileGenesis, said that this partnership establishes a new standard for the cotton and premium fiber industries, as well as a new route for the whole fashion eco-system. In a single integrated platform, they are creatively merging three important innovations: digital-token-based article-level traceability, forensic physical verification, and Supima brand licensing. It establishes a new industry platinum standard for end-to-end traceability and physical verification.
