SOCI becomes Pakistan’s first OCA-recognized initiative

Soorty, a leading Pakistani denim manufacturer, has announced that its Soorty Organic Cotton Initiative (SOCI) is now officially recognised by the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA), marking a first for the country’s private textile sector. SOCI’s involvement in the OCA Seed Commercialization Initiative addresses the critical issue of access to non-GMO cotton seeds, enabling dependable and traceable organic cotton cultivation in Pakistan.

With this recognition, SOCI can now provide farmers with high-quality, non-GMO seeds and enhanced traceability tools like the digital bale passport. “We are revolutionising farmer advisory with modern tools and strengthening our initiatives with a dedicated seed laboratory,” said Dr Yousaf, head of Soorty’s agriculture ventures and traceability. “By launching the new ROC project, we are empowering farmers, enhancing transparency, and shaping the future of responsible agriculture.”

Soorty’s broader sustainability strategy includes regenerative and organic farming, ethical manufacturing, digital transparency, and circular innovation. Flagship initiatives like SOCI and the Soorty Regenagri Initiative (SRI) focus on producing ethically sourced, GMO-free cotton while enriching soil health and supporting farmer welfare.

Soorty’s “Second Life” brand further strengthens its commitment to circularity by transforming post-consumer and post-industrial waste into traceable denim products. Meanwhile, the company is pursuing Regenerative Organic Certification by year-end, expanding its holistic approach to sustainable cotton.

A key technological investment is the new Soorty Seed Integrity Lab, which ensures quality control by testing seed purity, verifying GMO-free claims, and tracking sustainability metrics. Complementing this is a partnership with digital agri-platform SAWIE, which provides farmers with AI-driven insights and transparency from farm to fashion.
