SK Chemicals partners with Huvis to manufacture chemical-recycled polyester yarn

South Korea-based, SK Chemicals is stepping up its environmentally friendly business strategy by partnering with Huvis, a manufacturer of fiber materials, to produce a high-quality polyester yarn using chemical recycling technology.

SK Group’s chemicals division said that it will collaborate with Huvis to launch Ecoever CR, a high-quality polyester yarn, in the third quarter of this year, as part of their efforts to grow into the textile industry.

According to the business, the two parties just inked an agreement in this regard. SK Chemicals will create and supply recycled plastic bottles, while Huvis will use the recovered resources to manufacture polyester yarn goods.

SK Chemicals said that chemical recycling is a method that breaks down discarded plastics or clothing into raw materials that may be reused. The recycling technique allows thread producers to create more lasting goods.

Huvis will create Ecoever CR polyester yarn for the first time in the local industry after receiving recycled plastic bottles from SK Chemicals. The firm has constructed its own production line for making Ecoever yarn goods from discarded plastic bottles at its plant in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province.

Huvis will expand its recycled yarn portfolio to chemical-recycled Ecoever CR and Ecoever yarn goods when Ecoever CR enters the market and will be able to ensure a reliable raw material supply chain for the manufacture of recycled yarn, according to SK Chemicals.

SK Chemicals will be able to diversify its chemical recycling production line. ECOTRIA CR recycled copolyesters and recycled plastic bottles are already on the way, according to the firm.

An SK Chemicals official said with the rising social awareness of plastic waste, adopting environmentally friendly manufactured materials has become an essential consideration for customers. Starting with the eco-friendly textile and apparel industry, the corporation will speed the growth of the chemical-recycled plastic bottles business.

To achieve that aim, the firm bought a 10% interest in Shuye Environmental Technology, a Chinese company that recycles plastic bottles, in May. SK Chemicals has obtained the right to purchase 20,000 tonnes of recycled raw materials, as well as exclusive rights to raw materials and related products in the Korean market, as a result of the investment.
