Silk Mark expo 2014 help identify pure silk begins in Kochi

Silk Mark Expo-2014 organized by the Central Silk Board under the Union Ministry of Textiles to create awareness among consumers on ascertaining authenticity of silk items and to help identify Silk – the Pure Silk! The Consumer of Silk has long been having a difficulty of identifying the pure silk from the host of other fibers.

It also provide a platform to the Authorised Users (AUs) to showcase and sell an array of intricate silk designs produced by the silk manufacturers / traders and to enthrail the silk lovers by presenting them with an array of silk collection hailing from the far-flung weaving clusters of India under one roof.

On display and for sale will be a vast range of silk products including tussar silk saris, suit and stoles, Gadwal, Dharmavaram, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri, Kosa, Bandhani, Chandheri, Maheswari, Sambalpuri, Jamdani, Jamvar, Kancheepuram, Banaras, Mysore, Bangalore, georgette silk, Arani handloom silk, Paithani saris, Ikkat saris, raw silk saris, Kanta saris, designer dress materials and life style products.

K.S. Menon, chief executive of Silk Mark Organisation of India, said that the consumer can learn to identify authentic silk item through this exhibition, as the industry is being flooded by fake and sub-standard silk products. The expo is held to create awareness. Silk products made of all varieties of silk – mulberry, tussar, eri and muga – will be available at the expo.

The exhibition was inaugurated by KSIDC Managing Director Aruna Sundararajan. A vast number of participants, including farmers, weavers and merchants from across the country, are participating at the expo, which is being held at Gokulam Park Centre, Kaloor, for five days from August 20.
