Fast fashion retailer Shein, has unveiled a new resale destination where clients can purchase and sell previously used Shein products.
The company claimed in a release that the development of the new platform, dubbed “Shein Exchange,” is a response to a rising customer demand for resale. Those expressing interest also noted a need for the elimination of hefty platform costs that are sometimes required on other sites.
The service, which is now available in the US as a pilot, is accessible through Shein’s current app and has an interface designed to make it simpler for sellers to list things for resale using historical purchase records.
Despite growing environmental concerns around the world, Shein hopes that this new platform will inspire its customers to actively participate in circularity as it seeks to promote “mindful consumerism.”
It adds to the company’s growing efforts to change how people view its business because it frequently faces criticism for its high production volume, recurrent accusations of copying the work of unimportant small businesses, and unethical business methods.
As the store plans to roll out the feature into additional international markets next year, the introduction of the resale offer may be part of its ongoing efforts to improve its reputation.
