Shein launches $10 million SHEIN Cares Fund

Chinese online fast-fashion retailer, Shein, has announced the launch of the SHEIN Cares Fund, a multi-year, $10 million fund to support worldwide non-profit organizations working for organizations on empowering entrepreneurs, supporting underserved communities, ensuring animal health and welfare, and promoting recycling and the circular economy.

Shein has been chastised for not being honest about any of these pillars in its own supply chain, where it often drops 1,000 styles per day at rock-bottom costs, but the company is eager to be regarded as ‘doing good.’

Vital Voices, a global NGO that invests in women leaders who are unafraid to tackle an issue – from gender-based violence to the climate catastrophe – but need support to make their vision a reality, was announced as the first recipient of SHEIN Cares funding. SHEIN Cares financing will support fellowships and mentoring programs for numerous female change-makers around the world through a two-year agreement worth $500,000.

SHEIN Cares has donated over $1 million to global organizations in the last year, including in-kind and product gifts. Over the following year, the SHEIN Cares Fund will announce additional causes to sponsor.

Alyse Nelson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vital Voices Global Partnership, said that women’s engagement in every industry is more important than ever, and Vital Voices’ network of changemakers is setting a new path for women’s leadership. They’re happy to collaborate with Shein as they invest in women with deep roots in their communities, daring ideas that cross differences, and a strong commitment to paying it forward.

Molly Miao, Chief Marketing Officer at SHEIN, said that empowering individuals and giving back to those in need has been part of their company’s DNA since day one. With the worldwide concerns of unfairness and the reinforcement of hurdles to economic progress, organizations like Vital Voices are important. They hope that, in addition to their Vital Voices partners, the SHEIN Cares Fund will support many other groups around the world that are on the front lines of confronting difficult situations.
