Sateri Meets EU-BATS emission limits

Sateri Jiujiang and Sateri Jiangxi are two mills in China to receive compliance verification on the emissions limits set out in the European Union. This is the best available Techniques Reference Documents (EU-BAT BREF) with respect to Polymers. This new addition to the EU-BAT compliant mills makes it a total of three out of five which accounts for 60% of Sateri’s overall capacity of production.  In April, Sateri Fujian became the company’s first mill to be verified as EU-BAT compliant.

Sustainable Textile Solutions (STS) is an independent consultant which is a division of the BluWin Limited (UK) assessed the parameters of the EU-BAT BREF based on resource utility efficiency, wastewater discharge and air emission. The STS’s conclusive report stated that the energy intensity and air emission of Sateri Jiujiang and Sateri Jiangxi were well under the EU-BAT norms for the production of viscose. The mills were each saving in total about 1,100 kg CO2/MT in fiber production in contrast with the EU-BAT energy requirements limit of 30GJ/MTf. The company also kept in mind local requirements to control ecological impact for producing viscose and no gaps were identified by EU-BAT.

Allen Zhang the President of Sateri stated that the sixteen-year-old Sateri Jiangxi mill which positions itself as the company’s first and oldest, has acquired and expanded in 2015. He further added that it was a testament to their continuous investment and technology for three of their five mills to meet the EU-BAT emissions limits in such a short span of time. He stated that still applied to all their mills irrespective of whether they are existing, acquired, or newly constructed they aim to achieve a high level of sustainability process across all their operations.

The company is well in line to achieve the same on its remaining two mills, Sateri Jiangsu and Sateri China which was acquired and newly built in 2019, aspire to comply with EU-BAT’s recommended emission levels by 2023.

Sateri is popularly known to be the world’s largest producer of viscose fiber which is a natural and sustainable raw material visible in everyday items like textiles, baby wipes, and personal hygiene products. The company’s range of viscose products has been independently verified as safe and responsibly produced. The five mills situated in China produce about 1.4 million metric tonnes of viscose fiber collectively over the year. They also have a yarn spinning mill and 20,000-ton Lyocell facility. Sateri’s headquarter is situated in Shanghai where the sales marketing and customer service network covering Asia, Europe and America is stationed.
