Reusable nappy sales goes up in lockdown

Organic children’s wear brand Frugi says it is emerging from lockdown in better than expected shape after seeing a 300 percent spike in demand because of its own reusable nappies.

The Cornish company, which earlier this season was one of only four to acquire two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, was hit by an almost total reduction in its wholesale company overnight when the lockdown was declared.

But, online sales coupled together with the most successful product being its TotsBots disposable nappies with many parents struggling to purchase disposable nappies at supermarkets.

A Frugi spokesperson stated, “Despite extreme lockdown measures in place, kids keep growing, and infants remain being born. With lots of bricks and mortar retailers shut, newborn baby clothing and leisurewear things have seen earnings soar online with a 50 percent increase over the year.

“But by far the most outstanding performance throughout the past three months has been Frugi’s reusable nappy business TotsBots, which experienced an incredible 300 percent increase on the year as parents fought to buy disposables nappies and looked to reusables as a secure alternative.

“Reusable nappies not only save cash in the Long Run, but they reduce down significantly on garbage waste. This sudden advantage because of lockdown panic buying has moved Frugi to expand manufacturing on TotsBots as many parents make the change a permanent purchasing choice, saving not only their wallet but also the environment as well.”

CEO Hugo Adams stated the Corporation’s first priority at the beginning of lockdown had become the welfare of its workforce, followed by the survival of the business.

He added, “We are relieved and grateful that Frugi has come from Lockdown at a healthy and stable fiscal position. Due to our remarkable, dedicated employees, we’re dedicated to moving on from this unprecedented crisis by remaining vigilant, sensible and mindful of our planet.”
