RePEaT licenses polyester chemical recycling technology to Zhejiang

RePEaT Co., Ltd. said that it has signed into a deal with Zhejiang Jianxin Jiaren New Materials Co., Ltd., the first firm in the world to receive a license from RePEaT, to license its chemical recycling technology for polyester products.

Teijin Limited, JGC Holdings Corporation, and ITOCHU Corporation formed the joint venture RePEaT last month to license recycling technology based on Teijin’s knowledge of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), JGC’s general engineering knowledge of plant construction, and ITOCHU’s global network spanning various industries.

The Jinggong Holding Group, which runs enterprises in China focused on environmental management in the steel, textile, building materials, and beverage industries, includes Zhejiang Jianxin, a company founded in 2022. There is a company inside the group called Zhejiang Jiaren New Materials Co., Ltd. that specializes in running chemical recycling facilities.

RePEaT will offer a method that breaks down polyester chemically, converts it, and then repolymerizes it using the organic substance DMT (PET). The technique will be used by Zhejiang Jianxin in a recycling facility for polyester products that it intends to open in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, the following year.

To assist in lowering CO2 emissions throughout both the production and ultimate disposal of polyester clothing, RePEaT encourages the deployment of resource-recovery mechanisms (ecosystems). In order to help create a more sustainable world, the corporation is also attempting to lessen the environmental impact of its own supply chain.
