Rajasthan likely to have the highest cotton yield this season

Confederation of Indian Textile Industry’s Cotton Development and Research Association, which has been active in Rajasthan for the past few years, now plans to raise yield there to 1,000 kg per ha. With higher yield, Rajasthan’s production has also increased to around 170,000 bales.

P D Patodia, chairman, CITI standing committee on cotton, said that they had set a target of raising yield to 1,000 kg (per ha). Rajasthan is expected to have the highest cotton yield this season.

The Cotton Advisory Board had estimated Haryana’s yield as the highest at 665 kg per hectare (ha) and Rajasthan’s at 636 kg per ha. However, the recent pest attack in Haryana will result in its yield getting diminished.

Farmer to realize better prices should get their kapas (unginned cotton tested in the laboratory that is set up in the mandi before selling it, according to M B Lal, former chairman and managing director of Cotton Corporation of India.
