Powerloom industry delegation to meet PM seeking more concession for the sector

The Indian Powerloom sector is facing lot of challenges and so they looking for more concession for the sector and re-introduction of duty drawback. In this concern, a team of PDEXCIL office bearers will represent the Prime Minister soon.

The newly-elected Chairman of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), M Duraisamy, said that the powerloom sector need re-introduction of duty drawback so that more units will involve in export of the textiles to other countries.

The Powerloom sector is not against the handloom sector, but some changes are needed in the Reservation Act.

Already 22 cloth items had been reserved for handloom and on the representation of the powerloom industry, the then Union Government had relaxed 11 items.

In fact, powerloom industry has traditionally been one of the cornerstones of the Indian economy in terms of foreign exchange earnings and employment. Powerloom sector are fulfilling 60 percent of the cloth needs of the country and of the total textile exports every year, the power loom’s share is two percent.

The industry needs the support of the Central government to bring in further improvement.
