Polaroid Therapeutics, SFM Limited partner for antibacterial gelling fiber

Polaroid Therapeutics (PTx), a Swiss-based biotech start-up, has announced a development partnership with fiber development expert, SFM Limited (SFM). Together, they aim to create an advanced antibacterial gelling fiber to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a critical global health concern identified by the World Health Organisation.

The partnership will focus on developing a novel carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) dressing incorporating PTx’s proprietary Antimicrobial Polymer Technology (APT). SFM will conduct trials to integrate PTx’s APT into CMC fibers, aiming to produce an innovative wound dressing that prevents infections and promotes healing.

Ran Frenkel, CEO and co-founder of Polaroid Therapeutics, stated, “At Polaroid Therapeutics, we believe AMR demands our urgent and focused attention. Partnering with an agile and innovative company like SFM allows us to tackle this global health crisis head-on. Our combined expertise aims to transform wound care by integrating our disruptive antimicrobial technology with SFM’s advanced fibres.”

This strategic partnership leverages Polaroid Therapeutics’ polymeric antimicrobial technology based on quaternized polyethyleneimine (QPEI). Combined with SFM’s CMC fibre technology, they aim to create a groundbreaking wound-healing system that reduces infection risks and improves overall health outcomes for patients with cavity wounds. The collaboration addresses comprehensive wound care needs, including effective exudate management, infection control, moisture balance, and patient compliance.
