Phoebe Gates launches app to drive sustainability

To make eco-friendly fashion more accessible and budget-friendly, Phoebe Gates, daughter of Bill Gates, along with co-founder Sophia Kianni, has introduced Phia, a desktop and mobile app that helps users explore both online retail and secondhand clothing options. To build trust in secondhand markets, Phia’s algorithm highlights listings from verified sellers, ensuring authenticity and quality for its users.

Phia scans the internet to find the best clothing deals, allowing users to compare prices and make informed choices. The app also aims to solve common issues associated with secondhand shopping, such as concerns about scams or high prices. It promotes buying pre-owned items, which helps reduce the need for new clothing production while keeping affordability and sustainability in focus.

One of Phia’s key features is its user-friendly interface, which gathers listings from major retailers as well as platforms like Poshmark and Depop. Users can filter results based on sustainability tags, price range, size, and product condition. The app also shares details about the environmental impact of items, including their water and carbon footprints.
