PETA launches $1 million vegan wool challenge

Animal welfare organization PETA has announced a million-dollar vegan wool challenge.

The largest animal rights organization in the world, PETA, claimed that after wool shearing procedures, the wool business frequently abandons sheep rattled and bleeding in shearing sheds. It seeks to promote the creation of a vegan wool material comparable to or superior to sheep’s wool in appearance, texture, and functionality by offering a challenge with a sizable prize pool.

According to PETA, the ground-breaking material ought to be scalable enough to replace wool in the garment lines of major apparel companies.

The first person, group, or business that PETA judges determine has successfully developed a bio-based natural fiber or bioengineered fiber with 100 percent traceable inputs, low pilling, soft to the touch, producible in multiple weights, biodegradable, and, perhaps most importantly, have the look, feel, and performance of wool will receive a $1 million prize.

The material must be used and sold by a significant apparel brand for its Phase 2 judgment, which according to PETA should be a top 10 worldwide retail brand. At least one of the top 10 global apparel retail businesses must be able to produce the vegan wool in large enough numbers to sell it as a regular inventory item. The product is successfully marketed to customers by at least one of the top 10 international clothes retail brands.

Samples and initial online applications must be sent to PETA’s American headquarters by July 28, 2023.
