Pangaia partners with Hyosung to launch plant based activewear

Materials Science Brand PANGAIA has introduced a new and enhanced line of plant-based sportswear, Activewear 3.0, with the goal of finding problem-solving materials that support biodiversity, eliminate petro-chemicals, and support a future that is climate positive.

Activewear 3.0 adheres to the company’s “high tech naturalism” material philosophy, which aims to increase the utility of its fabrics by combining high-tech techniques and sustainable chemistry with nature’s abundance.

The brand’s most bio-based offering to date is the third edition of PANGAIA’s activewear line, which features four major styles in three colours. The first of its type, it is constructed of 30% plant-based Creora® elastane and 99.99% plant-based EVO® Nylon.

Creora elastane from Hyosung is the first product to hit the market with a 30% biobased content. It is made from industrial maize that is grown in the US, and PANGAIA is the first company to launch this new stretch fiber to the worldwide market in a sportswear line. The yarn has SGS certification, which ensures that it was manufactured sustainably and with plant-based components. Creora bio-based elastane synthesis reduces its carbon footprint by 23% when compared to conventional elastane production, according to a recent third-party LCA.

Each garment is also given the company’s PPRMINT™ finish so that it will keep its freshness for a longer period of time.
