Pakistan to hold its first textile summit tomorrow

The first Pakistan Textile Summit that is jointly organized by the textile ministry, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) and Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) is scheduled to be held at a local hotel on November 27 (Tomorrow).

The summit will have detailed discussions on the challenges being faced by the textile sector. There will be three sessions — Textile Industry in Pakistan, Global Textile Market Outlook and Sustainability of Textile Sector.

The session-1 will start with the keynote addresses to be delivered by the textile federal secretary and the minister Mr Abbas Khan Afridi. Later, various textile experts, including S M Tanveer (Aptma chief), Mian Javed Iqbal (CEO, Sitara Fabrics) and Suhail Khan (ICI Limited) would speak on the overview of the industry, examining its potential and sustainability, respectively.

The session-2 will have discussion on cotton market challenges and opportunities, GSP plus reflections, value addition and garments sector potential. Mr Aamir Hashwani, Khurram Mukhtar, Rizwan Ashraf and Arshad Aziz will speak on these topics.

In the last session, the Aptma group leader Ejaz Gohar, Sajid Minhas of PRGMEA, Mr Francesco Davido of ILO and Farhan Latif from FCCI will highlight the issues related to textile sector’s sustainability, market challenges, labour laws and implementation etc.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is likely to address the closing session of the summit. At the end of the summit, a joint declaration will also be issued amid recommendations and way forward in this regard.
