Pakistan textile industry has managed to maintain its ranking as the single largest manufacturing sector; unfortunately its machinery could not develop along with the growth of textile industry. Resultant, demand for textile machinery still is almost entirely met through imports. Import of textile machinery increased by 80 percent to $56.651 million in December 2013, an official statistics said.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), import of textile machinery posted an increase of $25.158 million in December 2013 from its import $31.493 million in December 2012.
During July-December 2013-14, import of textile machinery surged by 31.22 percent or $60.791 million to $255.520 million, up from $194.729 million in the same period last fiscal year, the PBS added.
