Pacsun partners with thredUP to launch resale platform

US-based apparel retailer, Pacsun, has launched a new resale service- “Pre-Loved Pac” in collaboration with thredUP, one of the largest online resale platforms for women’s and kids’ apparel, shoes, and accessories.

“Pre-Loved Pac,” a 360-resale program allows Pacsun customers to clean out their closets for Pacsun credit and shop pre-loved clothing directly through Pacsun’s website.

Pacsun used thredUP’s Resale-as-a-Service® (RaaS®) to create a white-labeled resale channel for its clients, which included a digital shop, clean out program, and cash out options. Pacsun is one of the world’s biggest youth retailers, and they use thredUP’s RaaS to provide their clients with tailored, scalable resale experiences.

Mimi Ruiz, Vice President of eCommerce at Pacsun, said that they’re dedicated to digital innovation and providing services that their clients will enjoy and use at Pacsun. They wanted to add sustainable fashion into their brand experience because their community already supports it. They thought thredUP’s RaaS product would be a wonderful fit when they first heard about it. They were able to quickly launch their resale program by leveraging thredUP’s proprietary technology, providing value to their customers while simultaneously decreasing their carbon impact.

By 2025, the secondhand market is predicted to develop 11 times faster than traditional retail, and it will be driven by younger generations. According to the thredUP 2021 Resale Report, more than half of millennials and Gen Z say they will spend more on secondhand in the next five years.

James Reinhart, CEO of thredUP, said that Pacsun knows its customers better than most other brands he has worked with. For a variety of reasons, including the fact that it provides a service that its customers are already using, incorporating resale into its company made sense. With Pacsun’s Gen Z consumer base, resale is not only a great fit for the company’s demographic, but it’s also an underutilized growth channel.

A cleaning program, cash-out incentives, and a resale shop on Pacsun.com are all part of “Pre-Loved Pac,” which promotes circular fashion. All of the aspects encourage customers to rotate their wardrobes on a regular basis, buy secondhand, and receive credit to do so again. thredUP Clean Out Kits, which are now available on Pacsun.com, may be filled with any brand of women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, and accessories and mailed to thredUP for free using a prepaid mailing label. The customer receives a Pacsun gift card in exchange for their resellable stuff. In addition, every thredUP vendor can now convert thredUP credit into Pacsun credit, which has a 10% higher value than cash payment. Pacsun brands that have been gently worn are now available for purchase on Pacsun.com.
