Moncler announces to going fur-free & joins Fur Free Retailer

Luxury Italian fashion brand Moncler, has announced that it will phase out the usage of all fur in its range and commit to going fur-free.

Moncler announced in a statement that starting this year, it will no longer source fur from animals that have been specifically bred or wild-caught, and that autumn/winter 2023 will be the final collection to include fur.

According to the statement, the choice is consistent with the company’s “ongoing commitment to responsible business practices” and builds on the brand’s positive and ongoing relationship with the Italian animal rights group LAV as a representative of the Fur Free Alliance.

Moncler has received plaudits from animal rights organizations Four Paws, Humane Society International/UK, LAV, and PETA for joining the list of fashion houses that have permanently discontinued carrying fur, including Gucci, Versace, Prada, Valentino, Armani, and Canada Goose.

Moncler will also join the global Fur Free Retailer program, which includes more than 1,500 brands worldwide that have given up wearing fur, to further emphasize its decision to go fur-free. The program enables customers to find reliable information about a retailer’s fur policy, empowering them to shop ethically and making an informed decision.

Simone Pavesi, LAV manager for the animal-free fashion area, said that LAV applauds Moncler for the prudent choice to permanently quit using animal furs in its designs. They are committed to Moncler and all fashion brands as they work toward new objectives for more animal- and environmentally-friendly fashion.

Joh Vinding, chairman of the Fur Free Alliance, added that they applaud Moncler for eschewing the cruelty connected with the fur trade. Today’s customers and companies are making it quite obvious that they have no interest in contributing to the horrifying suffering of animals exploited for fur fashion.

The news came at the same time that Moncler unveiled its second “Born To Protect” collection, which included ready-to-wear clothing and accessories for men, women, and children in addition to lower-impact jackets.

Materials utilized for fabrics and other components include organic cotton, recycled nylon and polyester, and wool and down that were sourced in accordance with strict sustainability guidelines.

All of Moncler’s product packaging utilizes low-impact materials, with handles made of organic cotton, garment covers made of recycled plastic bottles, and shopping bags and gift boxes made of a combination of recycled paper and paper from responsibly managed forests.

Moncler’s Sustainability Plan 2020-25, which emphasizes five strategic drivers: climate action, circular economy, fair sourcing, promoting diversity, and giving back to local communities, includes being fur-free and extending its sustainable offering. As part of its pledges, Moncler has pledged to utilize only sustainably sourced nylon in its collections by 2025, recycle more than 80% of nylon waste by 2023, and eliminate using single-use conventional plastics by that year.
