Milliken & Company launches innovative moisture barrier

Global manufacturing leader Milliken & Company has introduced Milliken Assure, North America’s first flame-resistant moisture barrier for firefighter turnout gear that is free from PFAS and halogens. The new fabric has been certified by UL and meets the rigorous standards of NFPA 1971-2018.

“Milliken is dedicated to developing high-performance fabrics that enable firefighters to work safely and comfortably,” said Marcio Manique, Senior Vice President of Protective Fabrics at Milliken. “We recognized a gap in the fire service industry for moisture barriers that offer both high performance and the absence of PFAS. Our experience in removing PFAS from textiles positions us to meet this need effectively.”

“The priority is to provide firefighters with a non-PFAS solution that meets the highest safety standards as soon as possible,” added Manique. “Milliken is proud to draw on our long-standing expertise in textile manufacturing to bring this product to market and support our first responders.”
