Michael Stars launches resale service with ThredUp

US apparel brand Michael Stars has partnered with the world’s largest fashion resale platform, ThredUp to launch a new clothing resale service through its Resale-as-a-ServiceⓇ (RaaSⓇ) platform.

The agreement will facilitate apparel clean out in order to reduce the amount of clothes that are discarded in the United States each year – 95% of which could be recycled or reused. GAP, Madewell, and Reformation are among the world’s largest brands and retailers that use thredUP’s RaaSⓇ to provide customized, scalable resale experiences to their customers.

Suzanne Lerner, co-founder and President of Michael Stars, said that the secondhand market is flourishing, and retailers are increasingly engaged in the resale economy. They’re excited to partner with thredUP to debut Michael Stars’ resale program and better serve customers and the environment as they change resale and write the playbook for how brands can enable resale at scale.

They hope to assist keep clothes in use longer and out of landfills by powering apparel Clean Out with their Resale-as-a-Service.

Customers of Michael Stars can print a prepaid shipping label, then load any shippable box with any brand of clothing, shoes, and accessories, and ship it to thredUP for free. thredUP awards the seller in Michael Stars credit for things that meet quality requirements that are sold on thredup.com.

Michael Stars’ mindful approach to circularity is shown in this deal. They employ sustainable textiles whenever possible, and over 85% of their clothing is created in Michael Stars’ hometown of Los Angeles, ensuring product quality and lowering their carbon impact.
