Mammut becomes part of the leading clothing, footwear and textile industry alliance for sustainable production

By joining the SAC, Mammut has become part of the leading clothing, footwear and textile industry alliance for sustainable production. The SAC’s Higg Index provides all industry stakeholders with a series of standardised tools to measure environmental impacts and working conditions, encompassing the supply chain, brands and products. The ability to measure the sustainability performance of suppliers, brands and products increases the focus on results and provides strong foundations for the continuous improvement process in the textile industry, as well as addressing the consumer need for ecological and social transparency.

The textile industry is able to provide a more efficient response to systemic challenges, by uniting its strengths. Adrian Huber, Head of Corporate Responsibility at the Mammut Sports Group AG explains, “In Mammut’s view, the strengths of the Higg Index are its unification of the industry and the comparability it allows,” Also, “All SAC members have committed to work together to ensure more responsible production in global supply chains. A collaborative approach is essential to support concerted efforts to continuously improve sustainability performance.”

The Higg Index is an apparel and footwear industry self-assessment standard for assessing environmental and social sustainability throughout the supply chain. Launched in 2012, it was developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, a nonprofit organization founded by a group of fashion companies, the United States government Environmental Protection Agency, and other nonprofit entities.

Following the announcement of its sustainability goals for the next five years, Mammut is taking another step in its committed approach to responsible production by joining the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). The leading Swiss outdoor brand will now begin the progressive implementation of the Higg Index, becoming part of a collaborative approach that will increase the measurability of its corporate responsibility initiatives.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition brings together leading companies from the textile industry around a shared vision of standardised measurement and communication of the sustainability of supply chains, brands and products. This approach is providing greater transparency and initiating a continuous improvement process throughout the entire industry. “Mammut shares our vision and we are looking forward to welcoming a leading producer in the outdoor sector with extensive experience in sustainability as the latest member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition,” commented Jason Kibbey, CEO of the SAC. “Mammut’s entry to the coalition will enable us to increase our influence in the sector and accelerate the change we are striving to bring about in relation to responsible behavior.”
