Lenzing, CPL and Oniverse launch biobased acetic acid for dyeing

Lenzing has joined forces with Italian chemicals manufacturer CPL Prodotti Chimici and Oniverse, the owner of the Calzedonia fashion brand, to introduce biobased acetic acid as a sustainable alternative for fabric dyeing processes.

Using wood as the raw material, Lenzing’s biorefinery produces pulp and fibre while generating biobased acetic acid as a by-product. This acetic acid has a carbon footprint that is over 85% lower than traditional fossil-based alternatives. It is widely used across industries, including food, cosmetics, and textiles, where it supports processes like washing, dyeing, and finishing.

Oniverse will not only utilize Lenzing’s cellulosic fibres but also adopt its biobased acetic acid for fabric dyeing. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to reducing environmental impact while maintaining high-quality production.

“Our biobased acetic acid, with its high purity and low carbon footprint, plays a crucial role in numerous industrial applications,” said Elisabeth Stanger, Senior Director of Biorefinery and Co-products at Lenzing. “This partnership demonstrates the industry’s confidence in our sustainable solutions.”

“Our relationship with Lenzing, built on trust since the early 1990s, has consistently delivered exceptional quality,” said Marco Lanzetti, owner of CPL. “As Lenzing’s first licensed partner for biobased acetic acid, we are proud to promote their innovations to our textile clients, including Oniverse.”
