Lacoste and National Geographic
The French luxury brand, Lacoste has joined hands with the historic conservation-focused institution National Geographic to launch a capsule collection that combines Lacoste’s timeless silhouettes and celebrated fits with the rich, majestic prints and forms of the animal kingdom. The main concept behind this inspiration for the exclusive range is defined by the National Geographic Photo Ark project that was led by award-winning photographer Joel Sartore.
The photo arc showcases the long-term effort to document every species living in the world’s zoos, aquariums and wildlife sanctuaries. This new collaboration visions to celebrate the diversity of the animal kingdom.
All the materials used to design the collection are made from 100% recycled polyester. All footwear feature natural rubber outsoles while the polos are made from natural cotton. Lacoste has gone through Sartore’s existing archives of over 10,500 species before deciding to highlight key animals and their vibrant stories. The four key animals are the Grevy’s Zebra, the Green and Black Poison Dart Frog, the Halloween Pennant Dragonfly and the Jaguar.
Each of these animals are examined and translated into graphics and prints in the form of dazzling coats, parka, T-shirts, classic Lacoste polo shirts, various accessories and even underwear. The padded jackets are available in Dragonfly and Frog prints and are reversible that allows the consumer to shift from an energetic animal print to classic navy.
