Renewcell
Sweden-based fiber-to-fiber recycling company, Renewcell and Germany-based Kelheim Fibres have signed a letter of intent for a long-term business partnership to help Europe achieve a circular economy for textiles. They plan to produce better grade viscose fibers on a commercial scale from up to 10,000 tonnes of Renewcell’s 100% textile recycled material Circulose each year.
According to Kelheim Fibres, the agreement paves the path for a totally European closed loop in which textile waste is collected, repurposed, and regenerated into new Circulose fibers for people who want to dramatically minimize their fashion footprint.
Patrik Lundstrom, CEO of Renewcell, said that fashion consumption in Europe has a significant global impact on climate and the environment. It also contributes to massive amounts of rubbish being disposed of in landfills and incinerators in Europe and elsewhere the following export. They’ll now collaborate with Kelheim to reduce waste and the requirement for virgin resources, as well as provide a totally regional supply of low-impact circular fibers for textiles. They’re excited about the opportunity to work closely with a partner like Kelheim, who is at the forefront of innovation and sustainability in this business.
Craig Barker, CEO at Kelheim Fibres, said that they see a great connection between their two firms; not only on the technical side, but they’ve discovered a very professional partner in Renewcell that shares their ambition for future-forward solutions that enable complete circularity in the textile chain. Every day, they strive to find solutions to the difficulties of the day. Their recycled cellulose fiber solution, made of Renewcell’s Circulose and manufactured at their Kelheim plant using environmentally sound processes, is an answer to the fashion industry’s need for sustainable, resource and waste-reducing solutions, as well as a more regional and reliable supply chain.
