Invest Jo starts yarn recycling project

The government investor portal of Jordan has recently introduced Invest Jo, which features a chemical recycling for fiber-to-fiber yarn production project on its website. It is an effort to preserve the environment.

With this project, an onsite joint recycling hub will be established in Al Hassan Industrial Estate (HIE) in the Irbid governorate. This area is home to various garment industries. Here, all the textile waste generated will be processed through chemical recycling which transforms the textile waste into yarns which can successfully be used in knitting factories within the HIE.

According to the portal, the investment is expected to be around USD 2 million with a payback term of 6 years. This establishment is expected to reduce the costs borne by all concerned parties because the chemical recycling technology needs a very high initial capital investment. Hence, this is going to be shared by companies involved in the recycling hub.

The production efficiency is also going to be improved as a result of this establishment. The cost of raw materials used by garment manufacturers will also be reduced along with the reduced dependence on landfills for dumping the waste. The service cost for waste pickup and handling is also going to come down.

The selling of recycled yarns will give a new source of income for manufacturers and also improve production efficiency. This is also going to impact the customer satisfaction as a result of compliance with environmental regulations. The inter cluster collaboration is also going to be improved as a result of this establishment.
