Pakistan-based textile manufacturer Interloop has achieved the European Union (EU) Organic Standards Certification for its Organic Kapas project. This recognition marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable and responsible textile production.
The certification, granted by Control Union Sri Lanka, is the result of a three-year collaborative effort involving 1,000 farmer partners. The Organic Kapas project spans 5,090 acres and has successfully produced 7,000 bales of certified organic cotton.
The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability while improving the socio-economic conditions of local farmers. It provides farmers with essential skills and digital tools to enhance farm productivity, improve soil health, and access premium markets.
Interloop CEO Navid Fazil remarked, “This certification validates our efforts to create resilient and transparent supply chains, enabling our farmers to thrive in an evolving global landscape.”
Launched with the dual goal of improving farmer livelihoods and advancing environmental sustainability, the Interloop Organic Kapas (ILOK) Project emphasizes the availability and traceability of organic cotton. It also focuses on training female cotton pickers in efficient harvesting techniques to reduce contamination.
This achievement follows the project’s In-Conversion Organic Cotton (IC1) certification from Control Union Sri Lanka in 2023. The IC1 certification ensures the preservation of organic material integrity through rigorous audits at every stage of the supply chain, from farm to final product.
