Fossil releases pro-planet tote bag collection for Earth day

Fossil Group, Inc., an American fashion designer, and retailer best known for its elegant watches and timeless handbags, is launching a range of vegan leather bags made from cacti. The company has launched a “pro-planet tote bag collection” just in time for Earth Day. It’s part of their Make Time For Good campaign, which launched in 2019 with the aim of moving toward a more sustainable future.

Kier’s cactus leather totes were created in collaboration with the Mexican company- Desserto, which makes cruelty-free leather using organically grown cactus leaves. Only the mature leaves of the cacti are sun-dried and used to make the bags since they depend entirely on rainwater and minerals from the soil. As a result, each Kier tote saves 7.5 liters of water, equal to 15500-milliliter water bottles.

According to a company spokesperson, Fossil’s design and product teams have been working hard since 2019 to source and incorporate alternative products that “leave a smaller footprint,” such as recycled stainless steel and leathers from Leather Working Group approved tanneries.

They said that they were thrilled to discover a vegan alternative to leather that is still relatively new to the fashion industry: cactus leather. They were enthralled not only by the material’s versatility and luxurious feel but also by the extraordinary method by which it is made.

The company said that many of their consumers are keen to see more sustainable improvements in their day-to-day lives and in their lifestyle decisions, adding that switching to cactus leather for this new line feels like “a simple next move” after committing to making the company more sustainable.

The team said that the Kier totes went through extensive testing for product consistency and reliability, satisfying the same expectations as normal leather. despite the fact that they had never dealt with cactus before. Finally, they were able to produce a range of high-quality bags that not only represent the brand’s sophistication and simplicity but also adhere to their new green mission. Cactus leather and leather substitutes will undoubtedly be used in upcoming designs, according to the spokesperson.

With its streamlined form and polished colors, the Kier tote has the potential to become a 2021 favorite for the Earth-conscious person on the go. It can comfortably accommodate a laptop due to its size, and the reversible pouch can be used as a makeup bag or even a wallet.

Kier Cactus Leather Totes come in a variety of colors, including moss, wine, black, and brown. They cost £383 (approximately £279).

Moving forward, the Fossil team stated that they intend to pursue their sustainable mission through content and process creativity, as well as drawing inspiration from their catalog of classic shapes and designs from all categories. They’re also adding men’s cactus leather pieces to their line, which will debut this fall.
